Raised in Appalachia, Devon McClive now lives in Berkeley and she’s been playing shows around the Bay Area since 2009. After many solo gigs, she assembled a band of top musicians and they just set out on tour to celebrate the release of their debut CD, Humankind (listen here). It is available on her website along with last year’s softer, piano driven EP, Quiet Bravery.

Although there are no local shows listed yet, the band returns from tour in June so look out for dates in July. She might be a female Andrew Bird or perhaps a less drony Juana Molina. With muffled horns and Tom Waits drumming, there is some definite gypsy stuff going on. The recent addition of stellar guitarist Dave Davis brings a bright Texas twang to the stew. Sweet, soulful singing over layers of looping cello will leave you all warm inside.
