It’s great to see annual happenings in San Francisco music, so we are pleased to share information about Switchboard Music Festival’s fourth occurrence this Sunday, April 3 at the Brava Theater (24th & York, 2-10pm). Celebrating local musicians and their diverse creations, this year’s lineup is topped off with Birds & Batteries, but enlists a unique variety of acts, from jazz quartets and experimental “scratch guitar,” to the traditional big band ensemble. To get a sampling of the 2011 lineup, Switchboard has compiled a podcast series!
The 2011 Festival presents some of the Bay Area’s most original performers, including Causing a Tiger, an all-star group featuring Carla Kihlstedt (Tin Hat Trio), and up-and-coming indie band Birds & Batteries. Other performers include Erik Jekabson and the Bay Area Composers Big Band, The Genie, Gojogo, Telepathy, and Wiener Kids. Switchboard also presents living composers whose work challenges traditional ideas of notated music, including Dan Becker, William Brittelle, Ryan Brown, and Jonathan Russell. In addition, sound artist Loren Chasse will create a work specifically for the unique environment of the Brava Theater.
