If you can rationalize heading out to Austin twice in two months, then we advise catching both SxSW and the Austin Psych Fest 4 (April 29-May 1 at the Mexitas Event Center). There’s a broad definition of psych music in the bands serving as the main attractions at APF4 this year: The Black Angels, Roky Erickson, Atlas Sound, Crystal Stilts and Black Moth Super Rainbow. The latest round of festival additions included Lumerians, The Soft Moon and Young Prisms, and announced before that, The Fresh & Onlys, all of local distinction.
The 3-day festival has already sold out of $85 weekend passes since they went on sale Sunday; the price has now gone up to $100 for weekend-long tickets. Another round of lineup additions, the official daily schedule, and info about purchasing single-day tickets will be announced on the festival website on March 1. The full lineup is after the jump.
