Casiotone For The Painfully Alone’s “California Grand Finale Weekend”
On December 5, 1997, Owen Ashworth played his first show under the Casiotone For The Painfully Alone moniker. Thirteen years later, on December 5, 2010, Ashworth is retiring CFTPA with a final show at Bottom of the Hill (9pm, $12, All Ages) before heading on to pursue new musical projects.
Terrorbird celebrates the holidays in style
As music marketing companies go, Terrorbird consistently has one of the best rosters around. That may not mean a lot to you, but trust me, when it comes to the thousands of emails we receive about new bands to check out, the Terrorbird ones are quality picks that head to the top of the stack. The Terrorbird Holiday Extravaganza at Bottom of the Hill on December 4th (9pm, $10, All Ages) features local Maus Haus and Exrays, along with Highland Park art-poppers Fol Chen.
Portland’s Hosannas head to the Bay Area
Okay, so the December 4th New Parish show (9pm, $15/18, 18+) featuring The Dodos and Tim Cohen might seem like something of an obvious concert pick for us. Still, there’s no denying that’s a great pairing, and with avant-pop duo Hosannas rounding out the bill, it’s a tough show to miss. If you like Pattern Is Movement and Menomena, give these Portlanders a spin, pronto.
Three flavors of local synth-rock at the Rickshaw Stop
SF’s The Actors released their latest EP, High and Low, in September. The collection’s a lush set of electro-rock songs that you can grab for free at the band’s Bandcamp page. At the Rickshaw Stop on December 1st (8pm, $10, All Ages), they’ll be joined by Phantom Kicks and Sunbeam Rd.
