Man does not (or at least, need not) live by rock and roll alone. Below are selections from three rising local electronic artists with recent or upcoming releases. What’s more, all three have shows in the Bay during October.
The Analogue EP is the first release from Oakland’s Elephant and Castle, who celebrates the EP’s release at the Totally Intense Fractal Mind Gaze Hut on October 3rd with White Hinterland and Beep. Musician/engineer David Reep is the man behind the project’s glitchy, sample-driven electronic soul. In case he’s not busy enough, Reep’s also the founder of Third Culture Records, which has released music by Man/Miracle, Butterfly Bones, Foxtails Brigade, Judgement Day, The Soft White Sixties and James & Evander.
Eskmo is SF-by-way-of-CT’s Brendan Angelides, whose self-titled debut album comes out October 19th on Ninja Tune. “Cloudlight” is massive, wobbly music, a quasi-metallic slice of slowed-down pop aided by Angelides’ emotive but understated vocals. Eskmo performs as part of a free Ninja Tune XX anniversary show at 1015 Folsom on October 29th.
James & Evander – “Turtle Two”
Oakland production duo James & Evander recently released their latest collection of instrumental electronic pop, an EP called Sunlight & Circuitry. The EP’s billed as “weedwave, the stonier more introspective cousin of chillwave,” and the duo are playing on October 5th at Amoeba in Berkeley.
After the jump, a link to download “Come Back” from Eskmo, as well as all of his upcoming tour dates.
