Tonight, Garrett Pierce returns to San Francisco to perform at the Hemlock Tavern with Mountain Man (Vermont), and Mira Cook (9pm, $6). As he might explain at the show, Pierce has been plotting the upcoming recording of his third full length, following the release of All Masks last spring, with Jen Grady (cello) and producer Eric Ruud (of Sholi, Islay Banks) both expected to return.
Garrett also has some shows to bookmark a little further down the road — including a house show in Davis (March 30) and a night at the Rickshaw Stop (March 31) with Portland’s highly acclaimed Laura Gibson (also playing Noise Pop with Mark Kozelek Feb. 27) and Emily Jane White. More show details can be found on his MySpace page.
Also worth previewing is Vermont’s Mountain Man; the young female trio has a powerful vocal energy blanketed over minimal folk progressions, which yes, does evoke senses of pine trees and fresh mountain air. They have a plethora of intimate West Coast stops listed on their Bandcamp site, as well as the option to name your price for their recordings.
