Rogue Wave recently announced many of the pertinent details surrounding Permalight, the group’s upcoming album, out March 2nd. The album emerged following Zach Rogue’s severe slipped discs injury in September 2008, an injury which steadily worsened until Rogue lost feeling in his right hand. In 2009, as he began to recover, Rogue envisioned writing a “total dance album.” Says Zach in a recent press release, “I decided when I picked up the guitar again I didn’t want to play anything I knew. Even if that meant yelling into the microphone or detuning a guitar, I wanted to record all those ideas.”

We actually witnessed a little of this firsthand when we recorded Rogue Wave’s contribution for The Bay Bridged, Volume 2 shortly after Zach sustained the injury that September. At the time, it wasn’t clear how bad things would get, but it was apparent that Zach was in a lot of pain, as he spent most of the session laying on his back (where he played the keyboard) and applying a neverending series of hot pads. We’re truly grateful to Zach and Pat for their contribution to the record, both on its own merit and as a testament to the group’s support of Bay Area music.
