Adam Stephens, live at the Swedish American Hall, 9/25/2008

While you likely know Two Gallants, it would be understandable if you’re not familiar with 2Gs guitarist Adam Stephens‘ solo project. Not yet familiar, that is, as Stephens and his band The Finite Plain are currently working on a debut album that should be a doozy. We’re honored to host Adam and band at our Regional Bias fundraiser event this Friday night (more details and advanced tickets here), so that you can get the feeling I’ve had watching his band perform at Vetiver’s CD release party and down at SXSW. Simply put, Stephens is serving up nothing but hits: every song is a moving and compelling work, and he’s surrounded by some of the best bandmates one could want, including Jen Grady (known also as a solo artist and part of Emily Jane White and Garrett Pierce’s bands), whose warm vocals and cello buttress the raw humanity in Stephens’ pieces.

With no recorded output yet, I’d be tempted just to say come to the show on Friday and experience it for yourself, but if you’re a cautious type, there is a wealth of Stephens material currently available on YouTube. But although there’s a rather surprising amount of it out there, the audio and picture quality varies throughout and, as a result, there’s nothing I’d deem the definitive Adam Stephens and the Finite Plain video piece. In the end, I think the live experience is all the better for it, so whet your appetite on some of the videos I’ve compiled here and come see them this Friday night to get the real deal at Regional Bias.
