“OMFG Oakland!,” indeed. The 2009 Mission Creek Music Festival kicks off this weekend with a couple of Oakland shows, before heading back across the Bay for next week’s festivities. Saturday’s show is a great lineup of local folks at Rooz Cafe in Oakland. The full lineup includes Grand Lake, Make Me, White Cloud, The Blank Tapes, Colossal Yes, The Splinters, Ghost and the City, The Dashing Suns and The Double U.
Grand Lake – “This City” (via Hippies Are Dead)
Headliners Grand Lake passed along some big news yesterday regarding lineup changes and new sounds. From the group:
Bay Area art-rock band Grand Lake would like to announce a line-up change – moving forward the band will be a trio consisting of bassist/singer Caleb Nichols, guitarist Jameson Swanagon, and drummer/glockenspiel enthusiast John Pomeroy. Keyboardist/Vocalist Erika Pipkin will no longer be performing with the group.
The new line-up will continue to play material from both the Nevermint EP and the Sandusky Sunset single, but will be focusing on new material that will be released as a full length album early in 2010. The new material incorporates some new instrumentation, chiefly a Casio drum machine, a loop station, and a glockenspiel…
Erika was an integral member of Grand Lake’s original line-up – a fine pianist, and an amazing vocalist, we are confident that she will go on to do amazing things with her own music. For proof of this, visit her MySpace page and listen to her amazing songs.
