Rubies

For their first North American release, NorCal/SoCal band Rubies (featuring Simone Rubi and Terri Loewenthal of Call and Response) have blended a folksy singer-songwriter vibe with synthy dance-pop.  While that blend would evoke Jewel and Janis Ian jamming on a Moog for some, Explode from the Center is quite the opposite.  Chock full of well-structured, toe-tapping pop songs, Explode from the Center sounds similar to Feist exploring disco.   Signature tracks such as “I Feel Electric” and “Diamonds on Fire” are truly infectious and guaranteed to grace any indie-dance fan’s summer playlist.

Rubies will be celebrating the US release of their album with a dance party at the Rickshaw Stop this Thursday.  Indie folk artist Little Wings and local disco-electro group Windsurf will be supporting. $10, 8pm, 18+.
