TBB Birthday Bash

This month, The Bay Bridged proudly turns three years old, and with much to be thankful for, we’ve decided to throw a birthday celebration! We’ve asked three of our favorite local bands to join us for a great night of music celebrating the amazing Bay Area music community that inspires us as much today as when we started in January 2006.

We’d be hard pressed to come up with a stronger lineup than these three bands, all of whom released some of the Bay Area’s best albums of the past few years. Equally important, all three are amazing live performers and we’re sure they won’t disappoint at the party!

Be sure to get your tickets in advance for this one. We’d love for you to join us in the celebration and we’ll see you at the show!

About the bands:

It’s easy to see why Spoon picked The Heavenly States (Feature Podcast) to support them during their recent Fillmore residency, since both bands deftly balance smart melodic songwriting and raw rock brawn. Without taking anything away from last year’s terrific Delayer, the States are one of those bands that simply must be seen and felt live, and we’re excited to have them headlining our birthday show. “As panoramic as the work of such larger-than-life rock storytellers as the Who.” (Magnet) “4 out of 5. Combining the scruffy shocks of guitar and dyspeptic swagger of pre-grunge rockers like Agitprop and Pavement with a layered late-90’s indie-pop aesthetic…the States’ mix of beauty and attack are keenly calibrated.” (Alternative Press)

Birds & Batteries‘ (Feature Podcast) contribution to The Bay Bridged, Volume 2 is many listeners’ album favorite, and the swelling dynamic rock of “Lightning” suggests that the band’s now-being-recorded next album will match or exceed the excellent I’ll Never Sleep Again. “So gorgeous I find myself playing it over and over again…[I]t lulls you into magic.” (Future Sounds) “Sweeping arrangements and the occasional sonic freak-out add to the already rich landscape.” (East Bay Express, “Best Music of 2007”)

Geographer (Feature Podcast) fulfilled the promise of their winning live shows with a stunning debut released this past summer. Innocent Ghosts is both immediately gripping and full of depth and we’re excited to watch this band continue to grow. “This Bay Area threesome deftly factor urgency into their equation with insistent beats that prop up shy, reverb-drenched vocals…Tailor-made for your own personal late-night dance party.” (Spin.com) “Impressively intricate and captivating…utterly beautiful…” (Performer Magazine)

DJ Elise will be spinning between sets and after the show! She’ll be serving up the indie gems like she always does on SomaFM‘s Indie Pop Rocks!
