It’s time once again for a Monthly Mix episode of our weekly podcast. These eight songs are all from new or recently released albums by some great Bay Area bands. About all of the bands:

San Francisco indie-pop band Photons (“Animals”) recently released an excellent self-titled debut album. They will be at the Retox Lounge on October 23rd and the Make-Out Room on November 16th.

Singer-songwriter Goh Nakamura (“Hangman”) latest winning collection of rock-pop is titled Ulysses. You can hear more here and can catch him at the Rickshaw Stop on November 5th with Audio Out Send and Evening Empire.

San Francisco’s Kid Mud‘s (“Press It Out”) debut EP Birds Will Move Injust came out on TBB contributor Will Benham’s New and Used Records label. The home recording artist has previously been a member of Fiver and American Holidays.

The Splinters (“Electricity”) showcase a lo-fi hooky indie rock on their debut self-released EP. You can see the Berkeley/Oakland band with Ty Segall, Pure Country Gold, and Nodzzzat the Hemlock Tavern on November 14th.

Originally from San Diego, Berkeley’s Kingfisher and The Halcyonaires (“Weeping Canopy”) play raw experimental folk rock. I’m Never Gonna Go Home is the band’s latest CD as part of the Cackle Cough Phony collective.

Magic Me (“Soft Cases”) is an Oakland quintet featuring members of The Jim Yoshii Pile-up, Meanest Man Contest, and SACF. EP 1 is the band’s first release, out now on Sneakmove.

San Francisco quartet Schande (“Return of the Return”) have a new limited edition album out titled You’ll Never Guess What Happens In the End. Catch them at the Hemlock Tavern on October 29th, with Nobody Beats and Worker B.

Comprised of Steve Santa Maria and George Chen, the duo of Chen Santa Maria (“Chirpin'”) self-titled CD is collection of electro-acoustic improvisational pieces. They will be at the Lobot Gallery on November 17th with Lucky Dragons, Pit Er Pat and Hecuba.
