Our friends at The Owl Mag will celebrate their 3-year anniversary this Friday at The Independent, sponsored by SonicLiving. They will say goodbye to the toddler stage properly, with
music by Wallpaper, Hottub, Kenan Bell (LA) and Vitamin Party, as well as DJ sets by Aaron Axelsen of Live 105 and Amplive of Zion-I.
Wallpaper has had an interesting couple of months after their vocalist Ricky Reed cancelled their tour and disappeared. There are rumored sightings in Paris, but he was soon replaced by his cousin Robbie Reed, who soon after proceeded to disappear. Lucky guys. So in cooperation with their record label Eenie Meenie (or perhaps more just to avoid wasting tons of money), they held vocal auditions and kept the tour dates. So far there is no news as to if they have found a replacement vocalist, but those of you who attend this show will soon find out. They are about to embark on a tour, mostly in California and then over to the east coast later this month, hopefully with a (reliable) vocalist. They’re still reeling from the April release of their T Rex EP, which has garnered praise for both its bizzarre arrangements and vocals to its incredible ability to make you dance.
Hottub continues to wow local audiences with their energy, and will play more local shows throughout August and until their appearance at this year’s CMJ festival in New York.
As is typical for an Owl Mag party, there will be giveaways from Red Bull and TankFarm clothing, and a chance to win a pair of tickets to the Treasure Island Music Festival.
You can buy your tickets for the event on SonicLiving, and if you RSVP, you can even get a free beer from 8:30-9:30pm and a chance to win the above-mentioned goodies. The show starts at 9pm and costs $12.
