Shuteye Unison

Shuteye Unison, comprised of Daniel Mckenzie, Jon Fee, Jake Krohn and (sometimes) Jonny Latimer, have a brand new untitled CD out now on Jon’s fairly new label Parks and Records.

Members of the band can be found participating in many other Bay Area projects, including The Rum Diary, Mijuanito, Built for the Sea, The Action Design and The Aimless Never Miss. With the simplest MySpace page I’ve seen in a long time, the band keeps the descriptions of their music minimal, only describing it on the Parks and Records site as “indie rock after the post punk years and before the mainstream got involved.”

This post-post-punk characterization is a stretch, though there are clearly similar elements, such as melodic bass lines and the heavy drums. But with catchy vocals, the band’s sound is fresh. In the path of bands who want to make their album not only fun to listen to, but also fun to look at and touch, the new CD will be packaged in a hand-stamped eco sleeve.

Shuteye Unison will play their CD release show at the Hemlock Tavern on June 8 with Winterbirds. That show starts at 9:30 and costs $5. You can buy their untitled album here.
