Tomorrow night music and film will come together, as the Rickshaw Stop will host “Directions in Sound,” a party for the International Asian American Film Festival featuring three great local acts. The blend of musical styles will be a treat in itself.
Kicking off the night is Goh Nakamura, whose smooth acoustic guitars and winding melodies will get the audience nice and relaxed. For a sample, check out his home recording of “Home for New Year’s Day”:
Next up will be the Old Fashioned Way, who will kick it up a notch with their multi-instrumental, deep-voice indie pop jewels featuring every instrument under the sun.
This is all on the way to the final act, the electro/new wave of twins Ming and Ping who have been touring and promoting their latest album Causeway Army since its release in May of last year. If this doesn’t get people dancing, I don’t know what will. Fans of Add N to X and Fischerspooner will feel right at home. Ming and Ping’s live show is known for theatrics, costumes, multimedia and guest performers, so it promises to be an interesting night.
If you like the show, their new music video for “Legends of Nothing” will debut Wednesday on their website, so look out for that. In the meantime, here’s a sample – it’s the song “A.I.” from their 2004 album:
The show is at 9pm, and is $10.
