The Heavenly States
This week’s episode of our podcast is our final Monthly Mix of the year, featuring songs from eight great San Francisco Bay Area groups, including some new and exclusive stuff. Enjoy!
We kick off the episode with a brand new song from The Heavenly States, from their upcoming album Delayer, due out in early 2008. Head over to the band’s MySpace page for more music. We’re excited that the States will be headlining the final The Bay Bridged Presents show of 2007 on December 1st at the Rickshaw Stop, alongside The Morning Benders and The Dilettantes. Click here for more info on the show.
“The Hollows” is the title track from the new EP by Why?, a precursor to the upcoming full length album Alopecia, which will be released early next year on Anticon. The EP features covers by Xiu Xiu and Half-Handed Cloud as well as two songs from the album and you can purchase it here. Check out more at Why?’s MySpace page. The band has upcoming shows on November 23rd at Hotel Utah and November 25th at 21 Grand.
Earlier this month, Emily Jane White released her debut album Dark Undercoat on Oakland’s Double Negative Records. Hear more from the album at her MySpace page and pick up a copy here. You can also check out the video for “Wild Tigers I Have Known.” Currently on tour, White will be at The Independent on November 23rd and Cafe International on December 8th.
Santa Cruz’s Man/Miracle were known as Bear on Bear when we featured them in our July mix show. The name change hasn’t changed our affinity for their self-titled EP and the band is currently working on their first full length album. You can find out more over at their web site and MySpace page. They don’t have any dates coming up but are planning a West Coast tour for January.
San Francisco/New York-based The Blacks released their debut full length album Nom de Guerre, released earlier this year on Tricycle Records. You can hear more of the band’s energetic rock sound at their MySpace page. The Blacks’ next performance is December 20th at the Rickshaw Stop for the Tricycle Records Holiday Party, alongside Veil Veil Vanish and DJ DMAP.
From the excellent Digital Cloud compilation Firsts, Echo Park/San Francisco-based Messes bring us a terrific folky track. You can hear more from the band at their MySpace page. Check out Digital Cloud’s MySpace page for more about Firsts. The compilation is now available for purchase at our Bay Bridged store as well.
Whitey on the Moon bring us a song from their brand new EP One Less Car. The EP is the band’s first new material since 2004 and was recorded earlier this summer at Tiny Telephone. Check out more from the new EP over at the band’s MySpace page and web site and then purchase a copy at CDBaby.
We close the episode with the title track from Excuses for Skipping‘s brand new album Out of Work Early. You can purchase the album at the band’s MySpace page and on iTunes. Their next show is Wednesday, December 5th at the Rickshaw Stop with Parker Street Cinema and French Miami and they’ve also been recently featured on Pacific Noise and at Wiretap Music.
