Quite a show this Friday at Bimbo’s, as two of the Bay Area’s finest, Rogue Wave and Port O’Brien, make the San Francisco stop on their joint national tour before heading into the Northwest and then across the country.

Headliners Rogue Wave just released their latest album Asleep at Heaven’s Gate a couple of weeks back. You can hear music from that record and an interview with the band from NPR’s World Cafe There’s also an excellent profile of the group in last week’s SF Weekly, which examines the new record within the context of the band’s recent ups-and-downs in a very thoughtful manner. Check out some Rogue Wave music at their MySpace page and web site.

For Port O’Brien, this is the band’s first national tour, and follows some UK festival appearances last month and a summer that found three-quarters of the group up in Alaska working in the salmon-fishing industry (and blogging about it here). While they were away, they released a new album, titled The Wind and The Swell, on the American Dust label. The new CD is a collection of songs pulled from their two earlier and now out-of-print releases, and you can hear some of those tracks at their MySpace page and web site. You really should see this band live, which we previously enjoyed quite a bit.
Friday’s show starts at 9pm and is $15.
