Today marks the end of the 11th Annual Madcat International Women’s Film Festival. This two week long festival strives to showcase the work of women who have taken a new approach to visual storytelling. It’s a unique endeavor, curating film programs tackling a variety of themes that extend beyond what might traditionally be considered womens’ issues.

In this vein, tonight’s program, shown outdoors at El Rio, will showcase 12 short silent films created around the theme “So Loud It’s Silent”. The evening won’t be silent, though, as Bay Bridged alumni Tartufi and Silian Rail have been brought on board to score and perform the soundtracks to a few of the short films! We’re very excited to hear how each band’s unique approach to songwriting will work alongside a new visual component.

If all of that greatness wasn’t enough to get you to check this out, Silian Rail and Tartufi will be performing together for one of the films as a new supergroup, Junk as a Ship! I know, we couldn’t believe it either when we found out.

More details and short synopses of each of the films can be found on Madcat’s web site. There will be free BBQ at 6:30pm for all in attendance and the films will start promptly at 8:30pm. Tickets are $7-20 (sliding scale/cash only) and the event is 21+.

And of course, take a listen to our feature shows on both of these bands!
