A few weeks ago we received a DVD from Roger Anderson, the man behind Halcyon High, a solo project best described by Roger himself as “glorious crescendos of noise and beauty”. We spoke to Roger roughly a year ago about the project as well as his other creation, the Cool Waves web site, which over the past year has grown as a resource and online community for shoegazer, post-rock, and multiple festivals celebrating this fertile community.
When we first caught up with Roger, he was offering Halcyon High’s music on CDs at shows at on the media page of his web site. The new DVD showcases a great aspect of the Halcyon High live performance that is missing on the CD, namely the elaborately sequenced videos that accompany every song. Incorporating clips both obscure and familiar, the videos add an intense new dimension accentuating the rising and falling tension in the music.
