This Wednesday, San Francisco-based Birdman Records will showcase their rather impressive roster at South by Southwest. The showcase will spotlight new signees the Spider Bags and Apache, as well as established acts like Brian Glaze, Greg Ashley, The Time Flys and The Nice Boys.
Birdman was launched by David Katznelson back when he was a frustrated Vice President of A&R at Warner Bros. Katznelson had signed such notables as the Flaming Lips and Mudhoney, but was growing inceasingly tired of defending these bands to his bosses. Thus, he decided to return home to San Francisco, and devote himself to nurturing and promoting the music he loved – strictly on his terms.
Above is an episode from the New and Used Records video podcast series featuring an interview with Katznelson, as well as Birdman staples The Cuts. The Cuts won’t be playing at SXSW this year, though members of the band also play with Apache and the Time Flys.
