On Tuesday night, Mezzanine played host to the annual opening night party of San Francisco’s very own Noise Pop Festival, now celebrating its fifteenth year in existence. Featuring Tapes n’ Tapes, Har Mar Superstar, Extra Action Marching Band and comic David Cross, the party boasted free attendence (for those who signed up on the internet in advance) and noticeably many of Noise Pop’s most interested press corps. and participants.

Extra Action Marching Band captivated the entire club by kicking off the festivities with a rousing set of brass and percussive-saturated anthems, complimented by its legion of left-of-Vegas dancers. Har Mar followed quite perfectly with his own blend of uninhibited braggadocio hip hop, prompting fans to clamor for toss-outs of his own sweaty underwear. Tapes n’ Tapes eased into the closing of the night with favorites from its reputable pop-jangled debut, The Loon, and a smattering of new songs that entranced the fortunate crowd. A smiling John Vanderslice, a venerable San Francisco icon and Noise Pop vet, looked on with as much excitement as the next kid.
