Derek’s Best of The Bay: 2020

Photo by Eric Molyneaux With the pandemic putting the kibosh on live music, there's unquestionably been a collective sadness within our hearts. That old world — where one could wander into a venue, order a cheap* beer, and get floored by some upstart opening act — seems like an eternity ago. It's been interesting see to how artists and fans scrambled to find new ways connect and fill the void left by the vacant venues. But amid some questionable livestreams, social media meltdowns, or choosing to ignore it completely , artists did what they do best during times of turmoil [...]

Video Premiere: Trebuchet dress up for new single “Failing Up”

You might say that 2020 has been a crazy year for Trebuchet. Since the dawn of the new decade, the North Bay indie rockers have welcomed a newborn into the world, endured career-threatening medical issues, witnessed a bold attempt to kill rock music, not to mention survived a worldwide pandemic that has left scorched earth where there once stood a music scene. And despite all of it, the band is dropping a new record this year. Entitled It's Fine, I'm Fine, the band's third LP continues where they left off with 2017's Volte-Face; weaving three-part vocal harmonies, intricate guitar hooks, and [...]

Trebuchet (photos: Estefany Gonzalez) Volte-face, a French word meaning to turn around or a change in direction, is a fitting name for Trebuchet's new album. The title describes a four-year journey since the group's first full-length record, Carry On, in 2013. After countless house shows, an EP with the Santa Rosa Young People's Chamber Orchestra, and playing festivals such as Napa's BottleRock, the group embarks on a new musical journey with a second full-length. I caught up with the four-piece at Greenhouse Recording, a recording studio founded by two of the band's members, Paul Haile and Navid Manoochehri. This space also serves [...]

Mixtape: The North Bay’s Best Indie Bands

http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/North_Bay_Mix.mp3 Download: Mixtape: The North Bay's Best Indie Bands (Podcast #341) There's a reason that Napa and Sonoma are known as "Wine Country," not "Music Country," but recent efforts have endeavored to bring the music festival experience to an area that's understandably known more for great food and drink. Over Memorial Day weekend, the Napa Valley Expo hosted the relaunched BottleRock Napa Valley, which drew tens of thousands to see Outkast, The Cure, and a lineup disproportionately heavy on '90s radio stalwarts. Just a few days ago, the Huichica Music Festival served up an indie-oriented two-day fest at the Gundlach [...]
