Fast Times! goes ahead online with Lalin, Healing Potpourri

Forgive us, but the last time we told you anything about Fast Times! was eight months ago. Since then, Andrew St. James and crew have been chugging along, simply transposing their concert series — which kicked off in late 2019 at the Chapel — online. And while we haven't had the time or staff to be able to highlight all of Fast Times!' excellent events recently, I thought I'd shout this one out because this lineup boasts a number of our faves: Sandy's, Healing Potpourri, Lalin, and of course Andrew St. James. This is their 2nd installment in a monthly [...]

Surf band Sandy’s is breaking waves with new EP ‘Chime’

On April 26, San Francisco surf band Sandy's will release a new, daydreamy EP titled Chime. These bona fide surfers let their inspiration flow freely at singer Alexi Glickman's seaside cabin one long weekend, in hopes of sparking spontaneous musical magic. Motivated in part by the fun-loving spirit of Christopher Guest's films, the members of Sandy's became the merry cast of Chime, falling into step with Glickman's loosely structured chords and melodies while maintaining an easy going surfer vibe. Glickman recounts his vision for building an intuitive, joyous recording atmosphere: “My wife and I moved to a a little beachside [...]

Mixtape: New SF Bands with Great Musical Resumes

http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/Musical_Resumes_Mix.mp3 Download: Mixtape: New SF Bands with Great Musical Resumes (Podcast #344) In a scene as active as the San Francisco Bay Area, it's not uncommon to learn that the members of your favorite band are also involved in other musical projects. It's also not surprising to see bands break up, burn out or go through significant lineup changes, enabling former players to explore new terrain on their own. All of this means that a number of newer bands with unfamiliar names might have some familiar faces -- or, perhaps more appropriately, voices -- involved. It also means that if [...]

The brainchild of Alexi Glickman, former frontman of the now defunct band The Botticellis, Sandy's will sound familiar to those who appreciated the dreamy pop of The Botticellis. Friday night, Sandy's will celebrate the release of Fourth Dementia at The Mill on Divisadero, alongside a screening of Campbell's skate film Cuatro Sueños Pequeños. I chatted with [...]
