Live This Week: Diet Cig set to open Rickshaw Stop’s 15th anniversary celebration

Signed to San Francisco’s Father/Daughter Records, Alex Luciano and Noah Bowman write prickly sweet pop-punk primed for a tumultuous era as Diet Cig. Quickly carving a space for themselves in New York as a result of their infectious live shows, the duo released their debut record in 2017. Swear I’m Good at This is rickety, playful, and packed with catchy melodies and emotional honesty. Luciano has found herself in a precarious moment and she makes no qualms about addressing issues facing young women like her with exuberant energy and candor. Now, to jump-start 2019 with a bang, Diet Cig will [...]

Noise Pop: Diet Cig at Brick + Mortar Music Hall

Diet Cig (photo: Bailey Greenwood) The words "infectious" and "bubbly" get thrown around a lot to describe musicians, particularly of the female variety. While at initial glance, these would seem praiseworthy phrases, they’re often coded expressions for vacuous or inane behaviors, and they’re usually deployed by grumpy music writers (often of the male variety) who are skeptical of anything they view as outwardly earnest or emotionally un-ironic. So, let me be very clear: you’d have to be one grumpy dude not to revel in the infectious, bubbly energy of Diet Cig singer/guitarist Alex Luciano. Luciano is a five-foot ball of [...]

Interview: Doodling with Plush

Eva (there in spirit), Dylan, Sinclair, Karli Lately I've been having the problem where whenever I actually want to go to a show, there's too many bands I want to see everyone playing on that one night. Sometimes it gets to the point where I just don't go anywhere, because it's easier, but sometimes I have to make some hard choices. A couple weeks ago this was the problem with two bands signed to Father/Daughter Records, although the fact that PWR BTTM's show with Ra Ra Riot was technically sold out made it less of a problem. So I [...]
