Black Cobra Vipers make history at The Chapel

Since opening in 2012, The Chapel has stood on Valencia Street as a beacon of live music, a bastion of night life and a symbol of hope in the city's uneasy social landscape. It is one of the more important things to happen to San Francisco in the last decade, (a scientific fact that I unearthed by multiplying free cult film screenings by killer rock and roll shows, dividing by Sunday Mass, and then raising that to the power of how fucking cool the space is). And like The Fillmore and The Independent before it, it will endure the inevitable noise complaints [...]

Live This Month: August 2014 — an audio guide to upcoming SF concerts

http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/LTM_August_2014.mp3 Download: Live This Month: August 2014 (Podcast #343) In Live This Month, we sample some of the great local and out-of-town bands performing in the coming month in the San Francisco Bay Area. Any discussion of SF music in August has to begin with Outside Lands 2014. Tickets sold out in the blink of an eye, a well-deserved achievement considering the extremely packed lineup of everything from Kanye to (Mikal) Cronin. It's great to see Outside Lands continue to soar. Now when do we start talking about extending it to a second weekend? OSL is the biggest, but it [...]

Stephfest: Cool Ghouls, Black Cobra Vipers and more for free!

Over the last two years, The Depot has stood out in the larger context of San Francisco music houses as a haven for rad shows and cheap beer down by lonely Lake Merced. Those who've been familiar with the SF State hang-out for longer than that remember a very different version of The Depot, one that was virtually non-existent at the start of 2011, when manager Stephanie Escoto first began working there as an intern. "I honestly can't remember my first show but I sure do remember how completely different it was," describes Stephanie. "The Depot used to be just a hole [...]

Sheepeaters play Bottom of the Hill tonight, 2/15/13

Casually born out of a ramshackle San Francisco State dorm room in 2011, Sheepeaters are now a fully-formed unit primed to make a splash on the local indie pop scene. The band first began to take shape when college roommates Taylor Giffin (drums) and Ty Lyman (bass) befriended guitarist Joe Raedeker on the SFSU campus. After adding second guitarist Joey Buttitta to the fold a couple weeks after its first show, the four-piece began to solidify its slightly off-kilter take on surf-tinged indie rock, pulling from a range of influences it refers to somewhat tongue-in-cheek as "falling somewhere between The [...]

Black Cobra Vipers release debut EP

EP by Black Cobra Vipers Meet San Francisco's Black Cobra Vipers. A young rock trio comprised of guitarist/lead singer Gregory DiMartino, bassist Julian Borrego and drummer Rob Mills, their debut EP was released at the end of August 2012 and we're quite happy to have stumbled on it. Each of the six tracks feature the band's ability to play both earnest, no-BS rock and roll ("Draw Me An Arrow"), and slowed-down groovy numbers that take their time ("Fringe"). DiMartino's vocals are impressively unique while remaining accessible; a mix of rust and howl coated with a bit of swoon for good [...]
