Supporting BFF.fm keeps the music coming and shines a silver lining

We’ve all been hearing stories of resilience, boundary pushing (in a good way), and communities coming together in new ways. One of our biggest sources of togetherness during the times of shutdown has been livestreaming and radio. “Radio stations are considered an essential business,” says Amanda Guest, founder and director of Best Frequencies Forever, better known as BFF.fm. “So we could have just kept doing things the way we were doing them, but we were concerned as a community, because we have a very diverse group of 125 DJs — that’s a lot of people coming in and out of [...]

6 local online radio stations to keep the tunes going during shelter in place

With a growing abundance of livestreams and online concert series to online sales, musicians and institutions are quickly adapting to be resilient as possible in the face of the painful disruption of COVID-19. Artists struggling to survive in the Bay Area is nothing new, though, so if you're able, consider supporting them. After all, it seems we'll all be relying on a variety of entertainment to get us through the next few weeks (at the very least). In line with some of the recommendations other writers here have given, below are some local online radio stations worthy of streaming. Whether [...]

Band Art with Megan Badilla

We’re always interested in artists whose collaboration with the music industry goes beyond the realm of typical. Artist Megan Badilla has had her hands in a lot of different projects in the Bay Area and we had the pleasure of sitting down and speaking with her. Badilla is a California-raised (shout out to Salinas!) and USF-educated lady who has lived in San Francisco the past several years. She feels very enamored with the music and arts scene here, and it shows through the many connections she’s made throughout the music and arts world. We chatted about the types of work [...]

BFF.fm presents MUSH, a concert series at Jack London Square

This week, Jack London Square will host the inaugural show for the new concert series, MUSH (a name inspired by Jack London’s Call of the Wild). The series, which is presented by BFF.fm, will play every other Thursday, starting May 9 through September 19, and will feature artists that jive with the vibes of Oakland: vibrant, eclectic, diverse, and exciting. Speaking of exciting, this Thursday’s kick-off show will be a killer start to the series. The night will feature bands Same Girls (The Cure meets Green Day meets dreamy), Samplelov (warm soul with cool percussion and spacey synths), and BFF.fm [...]

Celebrate a year of local music at the Independent tomorrow night

There are a lot of ways to give back this time of year, and one of our favorite ways is in the form of benefit shows. See some live music, raise some money for a deserving cause. It's a win-win. Our pick for this week? BFF.fm and Father/Daughter's collaborative showcase at the Independent, happening tomorrow night. Come revel in revue of great local music old and new from one of the city's hardest-working local labels: SOAR, Pllush, Pardoner, and Rose Droll. Not just a great way to look back on all that Father/Daughter and BFF.fm do for the local music [...]

The Bay Bridged Presents: A Rock n Roll Holiday Spectacular!

You're probably going to get invitations to a lot of holiday parties as December approaches, but few of them will be as fun as what we've got in store for you in a few weeks. On December 17, we're excited to team up with the terrific BFF.fm and equally terrific Father/Daughter Records for a "Rock n Roll Holiday Spectacular" at Leo's in Oakland. True to its name, the show will feature performances by four great local rock bands. Happy Diving just released Big World, chock full of wonderfully noisy, punk-infused pop. Cocktails released one of our favorite LPs of the [...]
