Benefit show and album for late SF musician Jesse Morris

I Wanna Take It All Back - In Memory by Jesse Morris Muni Diaries reported earlier this week that local musician Jesse Morris passed away on Sunday night. Morris performed locally with his band Jesse Morris and the Man Cougars, but you might also have known him as the "Punk Rock Johnny Cash" whose busking in BART stations brightened many travelers' days. Yesterday, Different Fur Studios posted the above recordings, from an uncompleted country album Morris had worked on in 2008. All sales will go to paying for his memorial service. Tonight, there's a benefit show for Morris' family at [...]

B. Hamilton – ‘Everything I Own is Broken’

Everything I Own is Broken by B. Hamilton Seemingly out of left field (or rather, the East Bay) comes B. Hamilton, conceptualized by Ryan Christopher Parks. For the most part, this is raw rock and roll, with throaty, angry lines that are somewhat therapeutic. Overall, Everything I Own is Broken an honest and exceptional album, all the way through the very last few songs. Everything I Own is Broken was self-released last month as a free download, and according to Parks was recorded "around Oakland in the Summer, the Winter, and the Fall. Fuck Spring." True, the album was very [...]

Swiftumz – “Angelita”

Swiftumz - "Angelita" Swiftumz is a project of Chris McVicker, who has collaborated with Hunx & His Punx. His debut LP Don't Trip was released by Holy Mountain this fall. "Angelita" is the album's star track, but it doesn't speak for the LP as a whole -- it wanders in and out of fuzzy, dreamy pop and into a hip-hop sounding beat every so often. Here's a little about Swimftuz, from the label: The problem with imaginary combinations is that many of them actually already exist. Don’t Trip sounds like a collaboration between Nick Nicely and Eric Hysteric, over which [...]
