Peter Hook and the Light (photo: Jon Bauer) Bassist for legendary bands Joy Division and New Order, the legendary Peter Hook performs under the band name Peter Hook and the Light and plays New Order's classic album Substance in its entirety, in the first half of their show, and then plays Joy Division's best in the second half. Last week, the band's current tour stopped by the UC Theatre in Berkeley to a very avid crowd. Also on the bill that night was LA's El Ten Eleven. Noise Pop: Granddaddy deliver at Bimbo’s
Granddaddy (photo: Jon Bauer) Reunited and it feels so good, rockers Grandaddy closed out the penultimate day of the 2017 Noise Pop Festival at Bimbo's and sold the place out while doing it. For those that may have missed them last time around a few years ago when they first reunited at Outside Lands, it was a headlining set that didn't disappoint. It was the opening show of their tour, complete with lots of new songs, including one they wrote only two days prior to that night. Conspiracy of Beards (photo: Jon Bauer) Rickshaw Stop hosted a special night of rock and roll, country twang, and Leonard Cohen choir music on February 5. The night started out with The Liners taking the stage. Lead singer Carmen King leads this San Francisco-based foursome with hard driving beats, guitar heavy and blues inspired original songs. Next up was Society Of Rockets, who performed tracks from their newly-released album, Family Ways Lastly, Conspiracy Of Beards was on. This roughly 30-man, mostly a cappella choir has been dedicated to the deconstruction and skillful re-assembly of exclusively Leonard Cohen songs. They've been doing this for 14 [...]

Jazz Mafia (photo: Jon Bauer) Jazz Mafia, led by Adam Theis, performed Miles Davis' Birth Of the Cool at The SFJAZZ Center on Friday night. The sold-out crowd was treated to an hour of this "musical experiment" masterpiece that was made in the '40s and '50s by jazz greats like Miles Davis, Gil Evans, Gerry Mulligan, and John Lewis. Theis provided his own thoughts on his personal musical discovery and journey with this masterpiece of classic be-bop.
