It's been nearly seven years since Joanna Newsom premiered Divers single "Sapokanikan" at Treasure Island Music Festival in San Francisco, the last time I saw her perform. The Bay Bridged was also there for her most recent Oakland show at the Fox Theater in 2016.

A couple of months ago, Joanna Newsom announced that she would be returning to the stage after a three-year touring hiatus. The special mini-tour was dubbed "The Strings/Keys Incident" and will feature Newsom performing solo vocals, harp, and piano in select, intimate spaces. Initially, the only stops listed were in Philadelphia, New York, Chicago, and Milwaukee. If any Bay Area stans already bought plane tickets to catch one of Newsom's increasingly rare live shows, they may have jumped the gun. Thankfully, the Grass Valley native has recently announced a string of California dates in November and December including not one but two San Francisco shows.

Local fans will have a chance to catch "The Strings/Keys Incident: An Evening With Joanna Newsom" at Herbst Theatre on November 25 and 26, 2019. There's a fairly good chance that tickets will have sold out by the time you read this, but don't panic just yet. If you're a bit south of The Bay or up for a road trip, Newsom will also be playing Sunset Cultural Center in Carmel on November 22. Tickets for this particular show go on sale June 28, so keep an eye out. Finally, Newsom has a three-night residency at LA's Hollywood Legion Theater from December 10-12.

It is unclear whether Newsom will be debuting any new material during "The Strings/Keys Incident" or performing select numbers from her four critically acclaimed full-lengths The Milk-Eyed Mender (2004), Ys (2006), Have One on Me (2010), and Divers (2015). Either way, we'll be lucky to be spending a special evening or two with the talented songwriter here in her birth state.
