Pro Arts Gallery in Oakland is a nonprofit art space dedicated to providing a safe space for marginalized local artists to perform and find exposure. On February 9, they will be hosting Exposé Deux, a showcase of local artists. Most of the artists slated to perform play experimental electronic music, ranging from Erica Mar’s heavy house tracks to S.S.Ess’s minimalist ambient project.

One artist on the lineup whom I was already familiar with is Kahj, a rapper from Berkeley who I interviewed in fall of 2017. Her music blends classic boom-bap and sample based styles with more modern flows. She’s cocky on the mic, delivering most lines with a wink and a punch to the gut. Endlessly entertaining with plenty of clever bars, Kahj is able to tell stories without sounding contrived or repeating herself and is definitely a local artist to keep an eye on.

Follow Kahj on Instagram and Soundcloud to stay up-to-date with her latest releases.
