The Devil Makes Three, a high-energy bluegrass/punk amalgamation of Santa Cruz's own, will headline the Fox Theater this Saturday, October 27, in Oakland.

The group's latest tour started Wednesday in Flagstaff and runs criss-cross through the left coast before ending mid-November in Montana. The Devil Makes Three are touring in support of Chains Are Broken, released August 24. Heartless Bastards' Erika Wennerstrom opens, supporting her solo effort, Sweet Unknown.

Over the summer, the band, consisting of Pete Bernhard, Lucia Turino, and Cooper McBean, released a new music video for "Bad Idea," the first track off the new record. The video surrounds the load in, sound check, performance and crowd live during their May 25 performance at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado. Check it out below:

Reaching the #1 spot on the Bluegrass charts for the second time with 2016's Redemption & Ruin, The Devil Makes Three found themselves deep in the festival-circuit spotlight. By the time sessions for Chains Are Broken began, a change was necessary. By bringing drummer Stefan Amidon into the mix, the band was able to better channel the energy of their live experience to record.

“We broke a lot of rules in making this record,” smiles Bernhard. “We’ve always done whatever we wanted to, but there were still some things we wouldn’t try. Those fears went out the window. [Producer] Ted [Hutt] was a big part of that. He stayed with us throughout the whole process from pre-production until the final moment of recording. He pushed us outside of our comfort zone. We’ve never had this experience. So, we got really creative under pressure, which ended up being super fun.”
