Parquet Courts are making their way back to the West Coast on their Wide Awake tour, and are headlining the Fillmore on September 27 with support from Beijing "transnational blues" duo Gong Gong Gong. Their new album is a clever and cutting response to the modern political climate starting with the opening single "Total Football," where the central message is "collectivism and autonomy are not mutually exclusive." Steering away from nihilism, "Violence" and "Normalization," these post-punk art-rockers are spreading a message of love and compassion. After all, we could all use a little more "Tenderness."

Produced by Brian Burton (aka Danger Mouse), the album puts a glossy spin on the punk and funk-inspired tunes penned by principal songwriters Austin Brown and Andrew Savage. Now that the boys are "Wide Awake" with Max Savage and Sean Yeaton holding down the rhythm section, Parquet Courts' current run of shows are sure to be livelier than ever. Watch the "Freebird II" music video (dircted by Claes Nordwall) below, and catch Parquet Courts with Gong Gong Gong at the Fillmore tonight.
