Running low on funds after miscalculating your Noise Pop show budget? Try your hand at one extra freebie at The Chapel. Portland psych-rockers Moon Duo will be in town spreading the sounds of their just-released record Occult Architecture Vol. 1. The pair were originally forged as a side project of Wooden Shjips guitarist Ripley Johnson with Sanae Yamada in command of the keys.
This record will also be part one of two, both built around the Chinese theory of Yin and Yang. A major influence to the album’s dichotomy came directly from escaping California and returning to the Pacific Northwest, and to the company of real, honest seasons. The band further explains, “The two-part epic reflects the hidden energies of rainclouds and sunshine and the deep creep of Northwest forests along with their effect on the psyche, inspired by the occult and esoteric literature of Mary Anne Atwood, Aleister Crowley, Colin Wilson, and Manly P. Hall.”
To fully overwhelm your evening in the Mission, Life Coach, the solo moniker of local engineer, producer, and Trans Am member, will support. Opening is Fine Points, who are on the verge of revealing a new record of soaked up fuzzy guitar and alluring vocals to make for a perfect addition to your night swim playlist you’ve been hard at work on.
