Lotus, the five piece live band jam-tronica pioneer from the Midwest, will be making a doubleheader appearance next month at The Independent.

Their 2017 winter tour kicked off with two evenings of Lotus in Washington DC this weekend and will make their way to The Independent on Wednesday and Thursday, February 8 and 9, with El Ten Eleven warming up the crowd.

Last year, Lotus released their 13th studio disc, Eat The Light, to mixed reception — the biggest upheaval coming from the fact that, for the first time in their 18-year history, the instrumental-heavy group put vocals on every song on the album. The summertime release was well received critically and has been performing well in live settings. Check out this recently posted video of the new track "Anti-Gravity" featuring Oriel Poole on vocals:

But as Luke Miller points out, at its heart, Eat The Light is a summertime disc, best enjoyed during “The Magic Hour” — that moment just after sunrise or just before sunset where shadows are darker, colors are brighter, and the definition and contrast of the day are at their sharpest.

“I wanted Eat the Light to be a celebratory album that people could sing along to while driving down the California coast,” says Miller. “This is the sound of summer that makes you want to dance and raise your hands to the sky.”
