In November, a North Beach mainstay signaled a new monthly music series featuring local artists for dirt-cheap. The Dolphina Lounge Series, within the walls of Bimbo’s 365 Club, will host Kendra McKinley and Emily Afton this month on Tuesday, December 20. This show marks a perfect combination of musicians who dangled a full album's worth of new music in front of us for most of the year. Jump below to browse through both 2016 releases.

Throwing the initial singles our way over a year prior, a much awaited follow-up to McKinley’s Chestnut Street was released in June. If someone in this city still hasn’t told you to drown out your annoying neighbors with Treat, I’ll gladly take the opportunity to do so now (If you don’t want to lead them into record through the far-too-thin walls, go straight to the bombastic “Canyon Canon”). Overall, the collection of songs is perfect for sliding down as many second-floor banisters you can find.

Archetype from Emily Afton still has its freshness seal intact, with a September release marking three years since mentions of Afton began to grow through the East Bay around the days of E is For Eleven. Tack on another reason to see this show if you’ve only seen the full band behind her. The flow of the new record jumps either end of the indie pop tightrope, from shimmering and bright to dark and brooding. Sample "Words from Your Tongue" and "Severing the Knot" to get a better idea of where the rest of the album will take you.

As an immediate perk to joining one more night of soulful sounds, all proceeds from ticket sales will be going directly to supporting the Oakland Fire Relief Fund. Though not an official benefit concert, the musicians and Bimbo’s team are added to the seemingly endless list of support that has been so visible in the past week.

With your holiday budgeting in mind, you can catch both songwriters for $5 — and if you remember to show up when the doors open, you can take advantage of some happy-hour pricing at the bar. So go have an early night of local talent or make it a double-header, as you can easily make it to another late night show soon after the lounge quiets down.
