Oakland’s own shoegaze-infected surf rockers, Day Wave have signed with Harvest Records —the label owned by Capitol Music Group and home to TV On The Radio, Best Coast, Glass Animals, and Death Grips. The band, which is the project of vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Jackson Philips, made their announcement this month alongside the release of a brand new track entitled “Wasting Time.”
At Rickshaw Stop earlier this year, Jackson introduced the song as the hypnotic refrain and atmospheric soundscape instantly captivated the room. “Wasting Time” is also the kind of dreamy banger that could have easily found a home on the band’s Headcase EP. That earworm of a record with lead single “Drag” stands out as one of the best indie pop gems of 2015.
There’s little doubt now that with their new deal at Harvest and forthcoming full length album — Day Wave will be filling up playlists well into 2017. Take “Wasting Time” for a spin below and see the band on tour this month or surely back in the Bay Area soon. And if you happen to have caught them just last week returning to Rickshaw Stop, let us know what you thought of the show in the comments below or at @thebaybridged.Tags: Day Wave
