Gaylord's Party Music is set to bring the party to a specific intersection of local music and tape releases. Based out of Oakland, the tape-exclusive label is making its release debut with Tino Drima's new EP Smoking. As the presumed patriarch/matriarch/helm of the label ship, Gaylord Edmonton says of the release, "Tino tapes are the best thing since sliced liverwurst."
The band is a six-piece super-group of sorts, featuring members of O (fka Black Cobra Vipers), French Cassettes, and Spooky Mansion. They make a kind of music they deem "Psyche Doo-Wop Hell Croon," because they're "fascinated with metadata" like all of us.
Today, we're happy to premiere one of the EP's cuts "Wolf," and hands down, it rips. It starts off with a slight doo-woppy edge, with a fun and croony vocal interplay between the two vocalists. As the song goes on, the back and forth gets more and more fiery until it completely erupts. It's like one of those songs that you'd hear at a futuristic malt shop and is a wonderful slice of what's happening in our ever-evolving local garage/psych-rock scene. You can take a listen below.
The news from the Tino Drima camp is almost like a choose-your-own-adventure. One road you could take is to pre-order a limited pressing of their Smoking EP from Gaylord's Party Music. Only 150 copies were made, and 100 are available online. If you're wondering what they look like, they come in a "sexy blindfold black" with a Book of Fire & Fortune matchbook, hand-inscribed by members Gregory DiMartino and Mac Bunch with anything ranging from G to NC-17 ratings.
Maybe you want to take the road of seeing them live — you can do that too, and quite soon. Next week, they're playing their record release show at the Rickshaw with similarly-minded locals Cool Ghouls">Cool Ghouls and Bear Call. Catch this sweet bill for only $5!
