Black Ryder

Australian-born and LA-based outfit The Black Ryder is coming to San Francisco to release its sophomore LP, The Door Behind the Door, at this year's Noise Pop festival. The band rose to attention for the gothic and surprisingly sparse shoegaze compositions of its debut album Buy the Ticket, Take the Ride, and with this forthcoming offering, the duo proves that slow burning flames last the longest.

From the dual vocals of "Santaria" to the ethereal "Seventh Moon," the sprawling tapestries of each track rush for no one, and during their most powerful moments, they are lifted by proclamations of survival. The latest single "Let Me Be Your Light" plays as if its linear song structure is bent around to form a circle, so that you feel it hit you all at once. Aimee Nash spouts Mazzy Star-esque vocals over layers of Slowdive guitar swells, urging, "Don't let them take you down." She repeats, "Clouds formulate, then I heard your call. We can destroy and conquer all."

After playing a pair of release shows, one at the Rickshaw Stop on February 24 and one at The Echo in LA the following night, The Black Ryder will head to Europe and then take its place among modern pysch royalty on a North American run with The Jesus and Mary Chain.
