Records Collecting Dust

Who doesn't like sifting through their record collection (large or small), uncovering old favorites or forgotten gems and giving them another spin on the turntable? And who wouldn't love to be a fly on the wall as their favorite musician flipped through his or her own stacks of vinyl, giving insight into the inspiration behind the music. The answer to both questions is "no one," and San Diego-based musician and filmmaker Jason Blackmore knows this full well.

In his new film Records Collecting Dust, a documentary "about the music and records that changed our lives," Blackmore documents the "vinyl record collections, origins, and holy grails" of underground and alternative music icons like Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys), Chuck Dukowski (Black Flag), Keith Morris (Black Flag, Circle Jerks), John Reis (Rocket from the Crypt), Mike Watt (Minutemen), David Yow (The Jesus Lizard) and over thirty other revered musicians. With interviews set in each artist's home, in front of stacks and stacks of beautiful vinyl, the film gives music fans a deeply personal peek into the listening habits and history of some of alternative music's greats – and also includes live performances from Biafra and others.

Records Collecting Dust is showing on both sides of the Bay next week – on Tuesday, January 27 at The New Park Theater in Oakland and January 29 at San Francisco's Balboa Theatre. Watch the trailer and get buy tickets to both showings below.
