Oakland's Kid Trails is the brainchild of Oakland's Patrick Jeffords, who writes and performs all instruments for Kid Trails, with the exception of drums, which are handled by Andy Woodward. Jeffords moved to Oakland about two years to make music with some high profile friends in the local scene, but I'll let the quality of his work stand on its own for now. Kid Trails makes fuzzy, dark pop that sounds not quite like anything out there today, although it did make me think of that great Edwyn Collins track from 20(!) years ago.
Jeffords is still figuring out how to make Kid Trails shows happen, so for now enjoy their four-song EP below.

Retro’s just been kicked in the ass! Creative, angst-ridden lyrics that say just enough without putting too fine a point on things, melodic with all kinds of trippy, multi-dimensional sounds woven in and out, beautiful guitar work, anchored by Andy Woodward’s deftly driven drum beat that’s incredibly intuitive. Funny, but I can almost hear the ghost of Gary Lewis and the Playboys in “Something Real,” Then there’s that insistent Stroke-like beat in “Care to,” an infectious dance tune. Patrick Jeffords has the most wonderful voice, mellow and smooth, always in a comfortable range. I totally love “Out Here.” Very nostalgic yet upbeat, sophisticated, tight and so fresh!
