Indie-pendence NightLife

Science is science, art is art, and never the twain shall meet. Right? Wrong. This week (and a little bit of the next—read on), the California Academy of Science's immensely popular NightLife series will stage a salute to all things indie on July 3. Because 'Murica.

Far from a one-time seasonal tie-in, this promises to be one of the coolest NightLife events ever produced: Bolstered by pours from local breweries, including but not limited to Pacific Brewing, Anchor Brewing, and 21st Amendment, the evening features presentations on the art of the mix from the San Francisco Mixtape Society and a gallery of poster art from local artists. You can peruse a pop-up record shop stocked with selections from our friends at Father/Daughter, Polyvinyl, Tricycle, and more. Last but not least, this is all to the tune of a DJ set by long-time locals Two Gallants, and produced by the incomparable (also our office mates) Noise Pop.

But wait, there's more: the July 10 event is all about the ocean, and features music from Oakland's Rogue Wave. We see what you did there.
