Thao & The Get Down Stay Down Video

The new record from Thao & The Get Down Stay Down, We The Common, is out today. You can buy it on CD or vinyl through their label, Ribbon Music. You can also listen to a full stream of the album over on NPR.

In addition to being a skilled folk rocker, it turns out Thao Nguyen is also pretty damn funny. Check out the We The Common promo video below, in which Thao confronts a 12-year-old critic who wrote a scathing review of her new record for his school’s newspaper. Who wouldn’t be furious about a line like “Thao’s music is what would happen if elevator music and a dial tone had a sober one-night stand.”

The video, entitled “Art Of My Loins,” is the second in a series of short films Thao made with director Lauren Tabak to promote the album. The series is called “Behind The Making Of The Making Of How It Was Made”, and you can watch the first episode, “The Hand Of God”, here.

Thao, of course, has a big Noise Pop gig coming up on March 2, along with Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside, Before the Brave, and Kacey Johansing.
