A Million Billion Dying Suns is a brand new solo project from The Park guitarist Nate Mercereau, and I couldn't be more excited to share his brand new sights and sounds with you. Mercereau, who released the instrumental western album $1,000,000 Worth of Twang last year, has taken his music in yet another direction with AMBDS and is now back with a second video from the project, this time for the track "Woke Up Floating".
Similar to his process on Twang, Mercereau self-recorded the new album in both his apartment in the Sunset, as well as The Park's rehearsal space, before having it engineered by Patrick Bischoff-Brown at Different Fur Studios. Mercereau tells me the album was "recorded on the smallest gear in the smallest room on the smallest cocktail drum kit in the known universe with one condenser mic. It's my attempt to get the hugest sound out of the littlest space."
Indeed, Mercereau has succeeded in creating a huge sound, much like he did on Twang. That's where the similarities between the projects end: AMBDS makes straight-up loud, fast-paced psychedelic rock and roll that also features Mercereau's vocal talents.
How did Mercereau come up with "A Million Billion Dying Suns"? "The Concept of A Million Billion Dying Suns is based in Perspective. Perspective on life and existence, in what we know as our 'world.' As the million billion suns die, they coalesce into one singular form of energy, before they ultimately end or explode into super nova. It is the vanishing point, where you and me don't matter, but we do. And so do you. Yes You. We are all Dying Suns, sewn into the same fabric. Endlessly dying, constantly living, in the pattern of the infinite universe."
What he fails to mention is that he also intends to include plenty of face-melting guitar shredding (my apologies to Folder Rock - sometimes I can't help myself).
A Million Billion Dying Suns will be releasing a LP sometime this spring, and will be playing the Showdown in SoMa January 21st. For his live performances, Mercereau will be joined by band members from The Park, which should guarantee that you'll be seeing a good show. Below, check out the brand new seizure-inducing singalong video for "Woke Up Floating" (the follow-up to last month's Christmas-themed video for "Brillgnar"):
