Phono del Sol 2012

Live This Month: July 2012 — an audio guide through SF concerts this month (Podcast #282)

In Live This Month, we sample some of the great local and out-of-town bands performing in the coming month in the San Francisco Bay Area.

So our top recommendation this month isn’t terribly surprising, but it’s a festival we’re extremely excited about. On July 21, 2012, we’ll be throwing the second annual Phono del Sol Music and Food Festival in Potrero del Sol Park. We’ve got seven great bands lined up — The Fresh & Onlys, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Gardens & Villa, Dominant Legs, La Sera, Sea of Bees, and Mwahaha — as well as seven local food trucks, DJs, and a bunch of other festivities. It’s an all ages event, with proceeds partially supporting some great Mission-based nonprofits.

Beyond Phono del Sol — and our annual Fourth of July celebration at El Rio, also not to be missed — there are a ton of great concerts this month. Locals with new albums are playing several big shows, including Grass Widow, Aesop Rock, and Sonny and the Sunsets. On the touring front, Codeine comes to the Great American for a reunion performance, while the Dirty Projectors bring their latest reinvention to the Fox. As always, take a listen, then go see some shows!
