Sugar and Gold initially caught our attention with their energetic live show, as we saw them open for Honeycut and perform at the SF Underground Showcase at South by Southwest. We’ve learned, though, that they are more than just a fun live band, a fact proven on Creme, their debut full length album which will be released an Antenna Farm Records on June 12th.

The new album is the culmination of two years of studio work by longtime songwriting partners Philipp Minnig and Nicolas Dobbratz and finds the pair blending elements of soul, funk, electro, disco and more traditional pop. Philipp and Nicolas also largely produced the record themselves, and it should be considered success in that role as well that Creme arrives packed with catchy pop moments begging to burrow into your head and nestle there for weeks.

We sat down with Philipp and Nicolas recently at The Bay Bridged Headquarters and discussed the new album, their plans to tour, and their beginnings in music. Along with the interview, we’ve got four tracks from Creme for your enjoyment.

Sugar and Gold celebrate their record release party next Friday:
